Ryan Peterson is a consumer protection attorney at Consumer Justice Law Firm.
Ryan Peterson graduated from the University of Minnesota and the William Mitchell College of Law (now the Mitchell Hamline School of Law).
In 2010, Ryan Peterson joined a Minneapolis-based debt collection law firm where he quickly learned the rules and regulations governing consumer debt collections, particularly those involving the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act (FDCPA). Ryan’s experience instilled in him a deep desire to work on behalf of consumers , and he shifted his focus to protecting individuals treated unfairly by large institutions such as banks, consumer reporting agencies, and landlords.
Prior to joining Consumer Justice Law Firm, Ryan Peterson ran his own practice for ten years, bringing federal lawsuits against companies violating the FDCPA and Fair Credit Reporting Act, and defending consumers sued for unsecured debts in state court. He is particularly proud of the decisions he secured finding that the FDCPA applies to attorneys in Minnesota who evict tenants for alleged non-payment of rent.
Ryan Peterson is passionate about volunteering and consumer education. His experiences have included teaching classes through Minneapolis Community Education to help consumers prepare their own credit report disputes and serving as a commissioner on the Minneapolis Commission on Civil Rights, in which he, along with other attorney commissioners, adjudicated alleged violations of the Minneapolis Civil Rights Ordinance.
Ryan Peterson’s practice areas include credit reporting errors, mixed credit reports, bankruptcy credit report errors, background check errors, identity theft recovery, debt collection harassment, and being mistakenly reported as deceased.
He is a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates.
